Clayton County Register, Wen., 28 Feb., 1979.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 24, 1979, at 11 a.m., for Ava Thorson at Norway Lutheran Church, the Rev. Keith Klemm officiating. Pallbearers were: John Glesne, Lee Glesne, Eldon Severson, Wayne Peterson, Lorimer Fuelling and Craig Embretson.

She was born January 12, 1887 in St. Thomas, N.D., the daughter of Betsy and Even O. Glesne. When she was five years old her family returned to St. Olaf, Ia. She was confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church where she remained an active member all her life. She served as church organist for 30 years. Her education included one year at Red Wing Seminary, Red Wing, Minn., two years at Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa, and one year at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., where she majored in music. She taught piano for several years.

On June 28, 1917 she was married to Theodore Thorson at Norway Lutheran Church. They resided in Lincoln, Neb., and later at Waverly, Iowa, until 1924 they returned to the Glesne family farm near St. Olaf where they lived until the death of her husband in 1976. In 1977 she moved to the Elkader Care Center where she died on Tuesday, February 20, 1979, at the age of 92.

She was preceded in death by her husband in September of 1976 and by her son, Burton, in July of 1976. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Evelyn) Butson of Fergus Falls, Minn., by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Burton (Clara) Thorson, and by her sister, Elvira Glesne. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
