Clayton County Register, Thur., 24 July 1935.
Alvin Johnson, 24, shot his two pet dogs about four o'clock last Sunday morning and then took his own life with a .32-calibre revolver on the farm of his step-father, Henry Knudtson, in Wagoner township.
Coroner Leslie Oelke, who had been called to the scene of the shooting, held that an inquest was not necessary, since it was a pure case of suicide.
According to the Register information, young Johnson had been at a dance Saturday evening, returning home about two o'clock in the morning. He did not enter the house but lay down in a hammock. About four o'clock in the morning members of the family heard three shots, and, upon investigation, found that the young man had shot his pet hunting dogs and then shot himself through the forehead. Members of the family could offer no reason why Alvin should take his own life.
Funeral services were held in the Norway church in Wagner township Tuesday afternoon, and burial was made in the cemetery nearby.
