Died January 2nd, 1865, Laura A. wife of Thomas Updegraff, Esq., aged 28 years. They were married June 1, 1858.
Laura was the daughter of Levi and Abigail Platt of Huron county, Ohio.
The last remains of Mrs. Updegraff were agreeable to her wish, deposited in the grave yard at this place last Saturday. Many of our citizens followed in procession to the spot to pay the last honors to her whom they well knew and esteemed. There were many mourners in Elkader on that day. Tears, heartfelt tears were shed over her grave by all who had known her in the past.
A kind and affectionate wife, and a treasurer to society has thus been take from us at a time least expected. Her sorrowing husband finds sympathy in many a heart.

DIED - At McGregor, Jan. 2, 1866, of typhoid pneumonia, aged 28 years and 25 days, Laura A., wife of Thomas Updegraff.
The death of the excellent woman above-named, chilled our city with sorrow. She leaves an inconsolable husband and a dear little daughter to remember he while life lasts.
The body was conveyed to Elkader on Saturday, and on Sunday last Rev. S.P. Sloan, of the Brick Church, preached a farewell sermon to the amiable one who had for years been an ornament and a treasure to her many acquaintances in this city.
We would attempt words of consolation, but experience teaches that words are useless on such heart-rending occasions. That all must reavel the road to death should, in some measure, relieve the poignancy of grief. God, alone, knows why these visitations come.
