Died in Elkader, August 31st, 1866, of an abscess of the right lung, August Salzer, aged 40 years.
The deceased had reached that age but a few days previous to his death. He was born in the town of Metziugen, Kingdom of Wuertenberg, Germany, and emigrated to America in 1848. During the war, he served the country in the memorable march of Sherman’s through Georgia.
He was an old resident of this place and was highly esteemed as a man and a citizen, by all who knew him. Being a Free Mason, the order gave his remains a masonic burial, which was attended by a large concourse of people. He leaves a wife and four children and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss.
Burial in the Eastside cemetery.
