Died in Elkader, April 21st, 1861, of Diphtheria, Warner I., son of Melvin B. and Caroline M. Hodgkins, aged two years, eleven months and eight days, surviving his sister Maria only 17 days.
See, dear sister, I am coming,
Stretch your little arms for me.
I am flying, flying, flying,
To the one I long to see.
See! Maria! Ma is weeping,
Oh, go now and dry her tears;
Tell her, that the Saviour folds us
In his arms, go quell her fears.
Warner dear! I hail thee with rapture.
Oh, your presence gives me joy.
Come, ye angels, view the meeting,
Mother! See your angel boy.
Here is Lina, Molly, Rolly,
Willie too and all the rest;
What a precious little army.
White as snow, and ever blest.
Dear Papa, prepare to meet us,
In our happy place so sweet.
With the Saviour’s arms around us,
Then our joys would be complete.
We will watch, dear parents, o’er you.
And our little wings we’ll spread;
Then we’ll point to Christ, the Saviour,
Who for us, had died and bled.
