Died at Garnavillo, on Thursday, March 21, 1861, Mary, daughter of Mary E. and Orlando McCraney, aged 2 years and 8 months.
It has been said, that “Death loves a shining mark;” and in this case he was peculiarly happy in his selection.
Little Mary possessed one of those lovely angelic natures, that attract the affection of every one. It is hard to part with such, even for a few short years; yet, consoling is the faith that sees the lovely spirit wafted to regions of bliss, there to await the arrival of those who now mourn its departure. The bereaved have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
Some three weeks previous, Mr. McCraney left his heart treasures, to search for treasures of a different kind, in the gold regions of Pike’s Peak. Alas! For the anguish that will rent the heart of the affectionate, doting father, when the sad news of his bereavement reaches him in that far off region.
