Thursday, 20 January 1910, Guttenberg Press, Obituary, p1, c5:

BURGHARTS.

Mrs. Mary Burghart passed away at her home on north First street Tuesday, Jan. 11, after a short illness caused by lung fever. Deceased was born in Germany in the years 1844. In 1852 she came to America, coming to Guttenberg [the] same year, making his her [home] for some time thereafter.

Following close upon the death of Mrs. Burghardt [sic] occurred that of her husband, George Burghart, which took place Thursday, Jan. 13, as a result of old age and who at the time of his demise was aged 79 years, 9 months and three days. Deceased was a native of Germany and was born at Baden April 10, 1830. He emigrated to America in 1858, arriving in Clayton county the same year, making Guttenberg his residence a short time. Feb. 12, 186[5?], he and his deceased wife were united in marriage at New Vienna in Dubuque county. After their marriage they settled on a farm a mile and a half from Clayton and on which they resided over forty years. Having earned a well deserved rest they retired from the farm last fall and came to Guttenberg to spend their remaining days, but death cut short that life of ease and comfort they had prepared for. They are survived by one son and three daughters, viz: George Burghart of McGregor, Louise, now Mrs. Chas. Kircher of Elkport, Annie, now Mrs. Andrew Hageman, of Yuba City, Cal., and Julia at home, besides twelve grandchildren. Mrs. Burghardt is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Lawrence Christ, Sr., of Clayton. The death of these aged people is a source of regret to their many old friends and neighbors, among whom they were held in the highest esteem. They were both laid to rest Friday, with service at St. Mary’s church, Rev. J. H. Brinkman officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
