Sarah Sackett
Died at Garnavillo, July 4 1856, Sarah R. Sackett, aged about 23 years.
When the aged are summoned by death, there is in their departure, however much deplored, a certain consolation, a sense that life’s race was run-its journey ended-its trials over. But when youth just maturing to womanhood, is struck down just prepared for the conflict of life and ready to enter upon its active duties in such a loss there is no consolation except in that of salvation.
Such a death of her who forms the subject of this notice. Through a long and painful illness, she was patient and resigned, and when the time for her departure came, leaning on the ‘arm that is mighty to save,’ she calmly passed through the valley of the shadow of death to the Cannan of rest.
Clayton County Herald: July 17, 1856
Notes: Burial is in the Old Garnavillo cemetery. According to the 1882 biography of Benjamin Sackett, Sarah's parents were Benjamin and Thalia (Moulton) Sackett.
