Mr. H. H. Gruetzmacher, whose death was noted in our last issue, was born in Mecklenburg Schwerin in 1823.

In 1848 he married his first wife, who preceded him in death many years ago. In 1858 he married Christine Laudan, his surviving widow.

Of the three children born during the first marriage, only one remains. Nine children were born to them in the second marriage, of whom four have died.

Of the surviving children, Mary, William and Arthur are at home with their mother, John H. is married and is in business here and Mrs. H. Gerloff lives on a farm near National.

The family has resided here for twenty-one years. Up to within a few years when old age and failing health compelled him to retire, he was engaged in the blacksmith’s business.

His remains were buried on Friday, Rev. Sommerlad preached the sermon. Burial in the new cemetery.
