Our community was greatly shocked last Saturday afternoon, April 11th 1897, by the news that Mrs. Wm. Krueger had died very suddenly.

It was known that she had not been well for some time, but no one, not even her own family, imagined that the end was so near. She became indisposed about noon and complained of a strange feeling of weakness, which grew worse and worse. She became unconscious about three o’clock, and remained so until her death, which occurred without a struggle or indication of pain, on her part. The physician who arrived after her death, pronounced it due to heart disease.

Louis, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Krueger, is a member of the confirmation class of St. Paul’s church, and the parents had been looking forward with pleasure to the time when they could hear him pass his examination, and see him for the first time partake of the sacred communion, on Easter Sunday. But when Palm Sunday, the day for the examination had arrived, the mother was absent, and more than one heart beat in sympathy with the grief stricken husband and father, as he accompanied his son to the church alone. May the hallowed influence of this Easter tide take away the sting of death, and the victory of the grave be swallowed up in the everlasting life which the believer’s hope.

Mrs. Maria Krueger, nee Heye, was born in Hanover, Germany, Sept. 14, 1843. She came to this country with her parents in 1847, the family settling at Navuoo, Ill., where they remained one year, before coming to Clayton County.

In 1867 she was united in marriage to Wm. Krueger, who with five children, three boys and two girls survive her. Mr. Krueger should find much comfort in his intelligent family of children who have labored with him, to bring the farm upon which they now reside, up to its present state of excellence.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Rev. Sommerlad officiating. The floral decorations which graced the walls of the church in honor of the Easter festivities, were not removed, and formed a beautiful tribute to the departed. May she rest in peace.
