J. A. Hempeler

Died – Friday, Jan. 29, 1897 at his home north of this town, J. A. Hempeler, at the age of 68 years. Mr. Hempeler had been sick for a long time with a complication of diseases. He has been a great sufferer for the past few months, and although his age would have permitted him to live much longer, his death though sad, was a release from a great burden of bodily pain.

Mr. Hempeler has always been an honest, upright citizen, whose nature was kindly to all. He was an experienced farmer and took great delight in making his farms one of the best in this county.

It is not all of life to live, but it is a great part of life to live honestly and well. Such a life will have friends during its sojourn here upon earth, and will have sincere mourners when the hour of passing comes.

There remain, to mourn the death of a loving husband and father, a wife and 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls. They are all dutiful children and the bereaved wife can find an abundance of comfort in their loving administrations.

The funeral took place Monday, at the brick church, Rev. O. Gammelin officiating. A large number of friends were present at the last rites and unite in extending their sympathizers to the bereaved family.
