Died at her home in Volga City, Nov. 8th, 1884, Mrs. Elizabeth A., wife of our esteemed townsman, J. E. Smith, aged 51 years.
Mrs. Smith was sick for about two months. All that kind friends and the best medical skill could do was of no avail; her time had come to go to that heavenly home for which she has so long been prepared.
Her Christian life among us is a good example for those of us who are still hagering on this side of the river of death. In many positions she will be sadly missed. She was a faithful member of the M.E. church; an earnest working in the W.C.T.U., of which she was president; a teacher in the Sabbath school for many years and was always in her place. Oh! In how many places shall we miss her pleasant face and kindly greetings, but how sadly will she be missed in the own and now bereaved home. The family have the sympathy of all who know them
Mr. and Mrs. Smith were among the earliest settlers in Sperry township. The funeral occurred on Monday, and was one of the largest ever held in Volga City. Rev. L.U. McKee preached the funeral sermon.
