Catharina Maria Hamann

Catharina Maria Hamann, nee Lembke, was born January 27th, 1834, in Teldan, Mecklenburg, Schwerin, Germany, and died on Friday, April 14th, 1916, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 16 days.

In 1856, the deceased, in company with her brother, came to America, settling in Iowa. The next year she was united in marriage to Wm. Tewes. They made their home in Read township, living there until her husband’s death in 1888. Six children blessed this union: Mrs. Aug. Buckman, of Read township; Wm. of Monona; Mrs. William Borgman of Emerald, Neb.; Mrs. Chas. Schulte, Henry Tewes and Mrs. Geo. Witte of Elkader.

In 1897 she was married to August Hamann, of Garnavillo, who survives her.

The funeral was held on Tuesday morning with services at St. Peter’s church, Rev. Basholm officiating. Internment was made in the cemetery at Read.
