At his home in Jefferson township, on Saturday, March 8th, 1884, occurred the death of Gotfried Kann, at the age of 88 years and six months, his death being caused by old age and general debility.
Mr. Kann was a native of Rhinish, Prussia, having been born there in 1795. He located in Jefferson township, this county, in 1847 and has resided there continuously since that time. He was one of our most highly respected citizens, and his death will greatly be regretted by all who knew him.
Some ten years ago Mr. Kann and his wife celebrated their golden wedding, but she soon after departed for that better land, and now he has gone to join her. He leaves four sons, Henry, John, Fred and William Kann, and one daughter, besides 43 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren to mourn his loss.
The funeral occurred on Tuesday, the remains being laid away to their final rest in the Kann cemetery. Thus ends the life record of another of Clayton county’s early settlers and enterprising citizens.
