MEYER

The Angel of Death has again called and one of our dear young people, hearing the summons and being ready, followed in the Great Beyond.

Lucy Margaret Meyer departed this life, Friday, June 5, 1896, after a long painful illness. She suffered from LaGrippe in spring and never fully recovered. Complications set in and her family and she herself realized that her life was drawing to a close. She suffered, but with Christian fortitude and patience.

Death comes to the aged, as a relief of earthly toil. But to the young person, this world is a place of beauty and life is sweet, and nature is wonderful. Death is an awful thing to the young, for it is hard for us to link our mortal senses with the immortal mind, and the sight of our loved ones being consigned to earth and decay fills our heart with agony. But the immortal soul is no longer confined in the earthly body, over which we weep and strew garlands, but when the solemn moment came, with one mighty bound, it reached the side of its Judge; there to wait for a glorious reunion with those of us still on earth. Let us think of her as gone but not gone forever, for a reunion, lies the Christian’s hope.

Miss Meyer was born near Garnavillo July 11, 1875, thus being only 21 years of age at this date. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Meyer. Four brothers and four sisters remain to comfort the aged parents in their affliction.

The funeral took place Monday, June 8, 1896, Rev. Sommerlad officiating. The number of sympathizing friends present was very large. Our sympathies are with the bereaved family.
