Henriette “Charlotte” Louise Jurgemeyer

Charlotte Hempler, nee Jurgemeyer, the eldest daughter of Carl William and Charlotte Jurgemeyer was born on the 10th of September 1840, in Kirshspiel Loevern, Wesphalen Provice, Prussia.

At the age of 14, accompanied by her parents, she came to Clayton County, Iowa. Here she was confirmed and on the 5th of December, 1856 she was married to August Hempler, and moved to the farm about three miles north of Garnavillo, where they lived until the time of their death.

Nine children were born to this union, all left to mourn their mother’s death. On January 29, 1897, occurred the death of the father.

The deceased had been ailing for several years. Two weeks ago she became seriously ill and gradually grew weaker until Tuesday evening September 27, 1910, at 11 O’clock, when death relieved her of all suffering.

She is mourned by her nine children: Wilhelmine married to Henry Schulte of Cook, Nebraska, William at home, Anna married to August Ihde of Cook Nebraska, August of this place, Louise at home, Louis of Cook, Nebraska, Henry of Sterling, Nebraska, Herman at home and George of Edson, S.D., two brothers, William of Luxern, Iowa and Louise of Watkins, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. Louise Tangemann of Wausa, Nebraska, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and many friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Bosholm, were held Friday, September 30, 10 AM at St. Peter’s church. Internment in the new cemetery.
