Mrs. Henrietta Stickfort

The announcement of the death of Mrs. C. G. Stickfort, at her home Friday evening, May 17th, came as a shock to her many friends, as few were aware of her serious illness. She had been in failing health for nearly a year and last winter was taken severely ill, never completely recovering, although able to be out part of the time. Last Wednesday evening she returned from Dubuque, where she had been seeking medical aid. Friday she was up and around until four o’clock in the afternoon. That evening, between 7 and 8 o’clock, death came suddenly, while the rest of the family were busy with their evening work.

After a busy and useful life, she died as she lived, honored, trusted and loved. Her hand was never weary and her step never failed in ministering onto or caring for and waiting upon those who were in any way dependent upon her. She was active in church work and for years was president of the Frauen Verein of St. Peter’s Church.

Mrs. Henrietta Stickfort, nee Fuelling, was born in Bohmte, Hanover, Germany, in 1850. In 1870, with her mother, brothers and sisters, she came to America and settled in Farmersburg township. The following year she was united in marriage to Mr. John Benjegerdes. Nine children were born of this union, two dying in infancy. In November, 1893, Mr. Benjegerdes died. In April, 1896, she married Mr. C. G. Stickford, of Garnavillo township. She was 62 years of age at the time of her death.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her seven children: Gerhard of Minneapolis, Louis of Oakland, Calif., Dietrich of LaJunta, Colol, Mrs. Lena Tietz of Manly, Mrs. Lottie Stickfort of Lewiston, Mich., Ernest of Manly and William of Remsen, Ia.; two sisters; Mrs. Louise Gellerman of California and Juliana of Sioux Co., Ia.; three brothers; Louis, William and Ernest Fuelling of Farmersburg and twelve step-children: Henry, Fred, Ben and Charles of Lewiston, Mich., John of S. Dak., Wm., Ed., August, Arno and nannie at home, Mrs. Lottie Kobernusz of Manly, and Christina of Eyota, Minn.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Bosholm, were held at St. Peter’s Church Wednesday afternoon, May 22nd.
