Elkader- Double funeral services will be held at the Highland Lutheran church in Highland, eight miles northwest of here, on Wednesday at 2 p.m., for Emmert Gunderson, 87, and Mrs. Albert Larson 74.

Both are pioneer residents of Highland township who died a few hours apart on Sunday.

Gunderson's wife and Mrs. Larson's husband are sister and brother, who live about four miles apart. Both were born and raised in Highland township.

Gunderson is survived by his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Luella Brown, of Elkader.

Mrs. Larson is survived by her husband, four sons, Philomen and Paul, of Elgin, and Glenn and Harry, of Elkader; Mrs. Don Tieden of Elkader, and Mrs. Mervin Sarchet, of Lafayette, Ind.; and two brothers, Lars P., of Elkader, and Henry P., of St. Olaf.

A son, Lawrence, died three years ago.

Embert E. Gunderson died at his home in Highland township Saturday evening, March 04, at the age of 87 years, five months and 25 days. He had been failing in health the past year but was taken sick the Friday preceding his death, which was caused by the infirmities of old age.

He was born in Wagner township Sept. 07, 1862, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Engebret Leir Gunderson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran church.

April 05, 1880, he was married to Mary Larson. They farmed in Highland township until 1897, when they moved to Blooming Prairie, Minn., where they lived for about 11 years. After a few years residence in St. Paul, Minn. and Makoti, N.D., they moved back in 1915 to the farm where Mr. Gunderson died.

Four children were born to this union, two having preceded him in death, Randena in 19_1 and Amelia in 1935. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Julia Lindelien, Wadena, Minn., and Mrs. Luella Browne at home; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Ole, George and Henry, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were O. H. Larson, Alfred Cook, Ole Embretson, John Erickson, Louie Gregerson, and Adolph Larson.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Simonett, Mankato, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Browne, Des Moines.
