Marquette- Robert E. Edgar, 72, lifelong resident and former mayor of Marquette, died Monday in the Masonic Sanatorium at Bettendorf after a long illness.
Mr. Edgar, who had served as mayor for 30 years, resigned three years ago when he suffered a stroke. He had been a patient in McGregor Community Hospital until a week ago, when he was taken to Bettendorf.
Surviving are two brothers, Jay, of Marquette, and Willis, of Seattle; and three sisters, Mrs. C. F. Johnson of Edwardsville, Ill., Mrs. Florence O'Brien of Milwaukee and Mrs. F. E. Deyo of La Crosse. Mrs. Edgar died last May.
Services have tentatively been scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Marquette Methodist Church. Burial will be in McGregor cemetery.
