Bee Sting Kills.
F. Henry MuellerYesterday over the wires came the startling news of the death of F. Henry Mueller, of Garnavillo township, as the result of a bee sting.
Yesterday morning, shortly before 7 o’clock, after building the kitchen fire, Mr. Mueller went to the pump near the kitchen door for a pail of water before putting on his shoes and stockings. On returning he told his wife that he had been stung by a bee again, evidently referring to an occasion about two years ago when he had been stung and badly poisoned. He then took his knife and removed the stinger, but made light of the matter, when his wife wanted to put something on the sting.
In a few minutes Mr. Mueller started to go to the hog pen to empty a slop pail but had only gone a short distance outside the door when he called for help on account of the pain and was obliged to have the assistance of his wife and son Oliver to get back to the porch. Mrs. Mueller then phoned to neighbors and for medical assistance but Mr. Mueller’s death came in a few minutes, before help could arrive.
It is a strange thing a bee sting should result fatally but we understand that Mr. Mueller had been made seriously ill on former occasions when he had been stung.
It is a sad blow to a happy family and the sympathy of all will go out to a stricken widow and children. Mr. Mueller’s funeral will occur Saturday, leaving the house at 12 o’clock noon and holding services at the church at Garnavillo, burial to be in the Garnavillo cemetery.
