Cedar Rapids Gazette, Mon., 5 Dec. 1949.
McGregor- Harry Davies, 53, was found dead Sunday morning in a wooded area about a mile and a half from his farm in the Yellow River country north of McGregor. Coroner R. W. Pateman said Davies died of a heart attack while coon hunting.
Davies left his home about 7 p.m. Saturday with his collie dog, Laddie. When he failed to return during the night, his wife became alarmed and notified a neighbor, Alan Blackwell, who formed a searching party.
During the search the men called Laddie frequently. The dog finally heard their calls, came to the group and led them to Davies' body. The farmer's gun was by his side and his flashlight was found about 30 feet away. The body was taken to the Pilkington Funeral Home in McGregor.
Davies is survived by his wife; three daughters, Lou Ann. at home and Mrs. P. J. Kaminski and Roulee Davies, both of Chicago; a brother, Walter, and two sisters, Mrs. Mal Robbins and Mrs. Charles Messenger, all of McGregor.
