Funeral services for Henry Voss, 76, lifelong resident of Clayton county, were held at his former residence in Garber last Friday at 1:30 o'clock and at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Walter Vonerohe officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Harmony cemetery.
Henry Voss was born in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa, Jan. 13, 1873, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Ostermann Voss, and died at his home in Garber Monday, May 16, 1949, at the age of 76 years, 4 months, and 3 days. During the early years of his life he was confirmed in the Kann church in Clayton county.
Mr. Voss lived in and around Garber all his life where he was active in farming and in the well drilling business. He served the community in the latter profession for 43 years. In 1922 he moved to Garber where he had built his house. When St. John's church was organized in 1925, Mr. Voss graciously gave to the building program.
For the past two years Mr. Voss was forced to live a more retired life because of his age and failing health. Around the first of April of this year his health forced him to stay at home, where he was cared for by his sister, Lizzie.
He is survived by two sisters and three brothers, Lizzie Voss, Guttenberg, Anna Weber, Seattle, Wash., Herman, Edgewood, Joe, Vader, Wash., and Fred, Garber; also 12 nephews and nieces.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Ben.
