The death of Mrs. Ida E. Humbert, 77, occurred Saturday afternoon at her home following a few weeks' illness. Since suffering a fall in her home three months ago she had been in failing health.
As Ida Elizabeth Montz, daughter of John and Mary Montz, she was born Jan. 8, 1872, and grew to womanhood in Clayton county near Volga.
On Oct. 22, 1893, she was married to George W. Humbert. The first few years of their married life they lived in Volga. Later they moved to their farm home five miles south of town, which was their home for more than fifty years.
Two sons. Greeley John and Forest Henry, were born to them.
In 1943, she and her late husband observed their golden wedding anniversary at their farm home.
On July 3, 1947, her husband preceded her in death. In the spring of 1948 she moved to Volga and purchased a home, where she lived until her death. She was the last member of her family of five brothers and two sisters, who have preceded her.
Surviving are her two sons, Greeley of Dunkerton and Forest of Volga, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, with the Rev. Leslie J. Faris, pastor, in charge. Music was provided by Mrs. Clarence Kohls and Mrs. Leo Grether, accompanied by Mrs. Leslie Faris at the piano.
Casket bearers were Walter Manson, Will Goodin, John Conboy, George Hakert, Francis Cummings and Theo. Neumann.
Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga.
Among those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Humbert and son, Minneapolis; the Greeley Humbert family and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Magee, Dunkerton; Mr. and Mrs. Mel Griffith, Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Thompson, Fayette; Sebald and Esther Andreae and Mrs. Chas. Fliehler, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thompson, Pearl Denning, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Walters, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Andreae, Mrs. Chas. Nus, George and Katie Andreae, Mrs. Hiram Beavers, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gifford, Mrs. Fred Gifford, all of Arlington.
