Clayton County Register, Thur., 09 Oct. 1930.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1930, at six o'clock in the morning, the angel of death entered the home of Herman Mueller and family in Read township, when their daughter Irvine, after a lingering illness of several years, closed her eyes in the last sleep, having attained to the age of 27 years, 3 months and one day.

Irvine S. E., daughter of Herman Mueller and wife, nee Pahlas, was born in Read township, Clayton County, Iowa, on July 01, 1903, and was baptized on June 19 the following year. She attended the country school and was confirmed in Elkader on April 01, 1917. For some time after this she assisted her mother with the housework. It was then that her ailments began, and after she had submitted to two operations in one year, one for the removal of a goitre and another for appendicitis, it seemed that her physical strength was very slow in getting back to normal. Realizing this, and also the fact that hard physical labor was out of the question, she made up her mind to attend the business college at Dubuque, and to fit herself for some type of office work. But in spite of her ambition and determined efforts she was not privileged to utilize that special knowledge very much. Her weakened physical condition would not permit it. The will was there, but the needed strength was wanting. It was finally deemed advisable to take her to the Sanitarium at Oakdale, where she entered on March 10th of this year, and remained until the 25th day of July. Then, having a longing for home and the loved ones, her wish was gratified and she was taken to the parents' home in Read township, where everything possible was done to give her comfort and relief by loving hands and especially by the loving care of mother.

Her departure is mourned by the aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mueller, four brothers and two sisters: Herman of Garnavillo township, Bertha (Mrs. Ernst Wiese) of Dubuque, Lucy (Mrs. Henry Reimer) of Elkader, Herbert of Giard township, and Harvey and Harry at home. She will be missed in the home, the circle of relatives and friends and at the annual reunion of confirmants on Easter Sunday.

Funeral services were held at the home in Read township Sunday afternoon at 1:15 and at 2:00 p.m.in the Evangelical church here. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery, with the Rev. C. H. Franke officiating.
