Edward Christian Schroeder, the son of Henry Schroeder and Marie Jahncke Schroeder, was born near Luana in Clayton county, Iowa on December 15, 1890. He was baptized in St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on July 18, 1891 and confirmed on April 16, 1905. He died at the Community Memorial Hospital on November 15, 1963, following a brief illness, at the age of 73 years and 11 months.

He was married to Nora Wilke on November 21, 1917 in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Following their marriage they farmed in Allamakee and Winneshiek counties until 1947 when they moved to Postville to make their home. To this union were born two sons and two daughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Delores Mae in infancy; three brothers, Arthur, John and William of Postville; three sisters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Ernest Bigler of Decorah, Minnie and Bertha Schroeder of Postville.

He is survived by two sons, Milton of Monona, and Merlin of Pacifica, California; one daughter, Darlene, Mrs. Richard Meyer of Postville; one sister, Tille, Mrs. William Topel of Monona; seven grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

He was taken to the Community Memorial Hospital on November 8, 1963, following a stroke, from which he never regained consciousness.

Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 19, 1963 at 1:30 p.m. Interment was in the Postville cemetery with the Rev. Charles E. Witt officiating.
