Guttenberg- Dorothy Ida (Wernke) Kann, 89, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque after a long illness. Funeral services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, by the Rev. Marvin Bries. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Guttenberg and one hour before service time at the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Gibson of Dubuque; and a sister, Marie Hoeger.

Dorothy Ida (Wernke) Kann was born January 22, 1919, daughter of Martha (Goebel) Wernke and John Wernke, who farmed 2 miles west of Luxemburg, Iowa and was the youngest of eight children.
She died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Dorothy met Bus Kann at Lakeside Ballroom in Guttenberg. She married Harold “Bus” Kann on December 29, 1941 at Holy Trinity Church in Luxemburg.
When Bus was discharged from the navy at the end of World War II they bought the house at 730 S. River Park Drive where she was a homemaker and caregiver to mother-in-law, mother, husband and children. Survivors include one daughter, -Donna (Mark) Gibson of Dubuque; son-in-law, Robert Lake, daughter-in-law, Rose Kann, of Guttenberg; Six grandchildren, Nathan Gibson, Dan Gibson, Susan Kann, William Kann, Arian (Dean) Friday and Tony Lake; one sister, Marie Hoeger; and one great-granddaughter, Claire Friday.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bus, son Dirk and daughter, Marjorie. Also preceding her death were six brothers and sisters: Olivia Hermsen, John “Jack” Wernke, Martha Gerken, Matilda Bockting, Henry Wernke and Kathryn Berns Backhaus.
Casket Bearers: Arian Friday, Tony Lake, Susan Kann, William Kann, Nathan Gibson, Dan Gibson, and Dean Friday.
The family has requested that memorials be given to the St. Mary's Catholic School in Guttenberg.
Visitation: Tuesday 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. December 30, 2008 at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home Guttenberg, Iowa and one hour before service at church.
Funeral Service: Wednesday 1:00 P.M. December 31, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg
