Wednesday morning it was reported that Mrs. John H. Judy had been found lying dead upon the floor of her room at the family home in this place. It appears that Mrs. Judy has been rather feeble of late, but Tuesday was about the house as usual. Tuesday evening at the usual hour, Mr. Judy went to bed, leaving his wife in the living room sitting in a rocking chair. He got up Wednesday about 5:00 a.m. and called to his wife from his room up stairs. Getting no reply he came down stairs and after looking around found her body lying on the floor of the living room. She was evidently preparing to retire when she was taken with a stroke and passed away without a struggle. A neighbor was arounsed and Dr. McGrath and Mayor Schulte sent for. It being plain that death resulted from natural causes, the coroner was not called.

Ellen Russell was born in County Clare, Ireland, about 76 years ago. In 1854 she was united in marriage to John Henry Judy. For the past thirty years they have resided at Elkader.

She is survived by the aged husband, three daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. Nic Meyer of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; Mrs. Nell Hodges, of Fremont, Neb.; Mrs. Ab Cheeseman, Manchester, Iowa, and William and Mike, at Elkader.

Our old friend mourns that his companion of so my years should have been called away in the manner of her going. But after all it is a comfort that she did not suffer. She has been a hard working woman, devoted to her family and faithful to her religious duties. May she rest in peace.

The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9:00 o'clock at St. Joseph's church.

~The Register & Argus, Thursday evening, Nov. 21, 1907
