Guttenberg- Gilbert D. Barnhart Jr., 67, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, in Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, by Monsignor John McClean. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, where a wake service begins at 2 p.m.

Born Dec. 23, 1932, near St. Olaf, Iowa, he was the son of Gilbert Barnhart Sr. and Wilma Best Barnhart. Gilbert graduated from the Elkader High School in 1950. He sold John Deere equipment for Klaes Implement, was a partner in the Klaes & Barnhart Construction and Diamond Jo Warehouse and was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life, presently, The Insurance Center of Onalaska, Wis. He was a member of the Guttenberg Fire Department, Guttenberg Water Bugs Ski Team, past president of the Rotary and Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce, charter member of the Elkader FFA and honorary member of the Guttenberg FFA. On Jan. 3, 1953, he was united in marriage with Marianna "Marian" Klaes at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg.

Survivors include his wife, Marian; his father, Gilbert Sr.; two daughters, Sue Ann (Robert) Rodenberg and Sharon (Randy) Keehner, both of Guttenberg; four grandchildren, David and Sarah Rodenberg and Kristine and Kayleen Keehner; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Diane Klaes of Guttenberg; four nieces; a nephew; cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Barnhart on March 1, 2000.
