Elgin Echo, Thur., 20 Jan. 1944.
Ingeborg Christianson Holm, Pioneer of Clayton county, died at her home in Elgin on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the age of eighty-five years, five months and three days. Mrs. Holm had been in fair health up until the morning of Jan. 11, when she was stricken with a stroke. Calmly and peacefully as one who lies in quiet slumber, she answered the summons of God and entered His eternal home, that same evening at 7:15 o'clock.
Ingeborg Christianson, sixth child of Christian Olson and Bergit Blingsmoden, was born August 8, 1858, in Clayton county. She received her religious training and was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran Church. Later she became a member of the Marion church of which she has always been a faithful member.
On May 26, 1874, she was united in marriage to Nels Holm. To them were born twelve children, four of whom preceded her in death, namely, Ford, (Olive) Mrs. Fred Reinhart, Edol, and (Mathilda) Mrs. Earl Bennett. Her husband also preceded her in death on March 20, 1913.
There live to mourn the death of this kind, loving and faithful mother and friend, four sons, Christ of Bemidje, Minn., Lucas of West Union, Enock of Milwaukee, Wis., Olavus of Waterloo, and four daughters, Mrs. Ole Benson of Clermont, Mrs. Caroline Vig of Chicago, Mrs. Nels Knudtson of Elkader, and Mrs. Bertha Jackwitz of Chicago. The latter has so faithfully cared for her mother the past four winters. Surviving also are thirty-seven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at one o'clock at the home and at two o'clock at the Marion Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. S. J. Strandjord. Casket bearers were Bert and Raymond Benson, Cleve and Doyle Bennett, Clifford Schaffer, Donald and Cornelius Knudtson. Burial was made in the Marion cemetery.
