Elkport- Thomas J. Amling, 69, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in his home from cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport, by the Rev. Tom E. Martin. Burial: Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Elkport, with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Leonard Funeral Home, Edgewood, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Military rites by St. Olaf American Legion Post No. 388.

Survivors include his wife Joyce; three daughters, Sharon Bright of Eagan, Minn.., Bonnie Brewer of Fairfax and Judy (William) Heims of Edgewood; a son, Mike of Fairfax; eight grandchildren, Melinda, Billy, David and Megan Heims, Ben Bright, and Alicia, Angie and Alexandria Amling; a brother, Gene of Elkport; and a half-brother, Harlan Staade of Guttenberg.

Tom worked at John Deere in Dubuque for many years.

The Amling family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at St. Luke's Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for all their support and kindness.

Instead of flowers, the family would like memorials directed to the American Cancer Society and Immanuel Lutheran Church.
