Elkader- Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Elkport Lutheran church for Miss Lena Bahr, 70, who died at her home in Elkport Sunday evening about 11:30 p.m., following an illness of several months of heart trouble.

Miss Bahr was born and raised at Elkport and spent her entire life in that vicinity. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter A. Bahr, who were pioneer residents of Elkport. She was a dressmaker. Her parents preceded her in death a number of years ago. A sister Miss Mary Bahr died in October, 1941.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Smith of Elkport, Mrs. Elsie Hauschen of Elkport, who has been caring for her the past three months, and Mrs. Walter Sauer of Elkader. A half-brother John Bahr of Elkader also survives.

Burial will be made in the Lutheran cemetery at Elkport.

Magdalene Elise Bahr, daughter of Peter and Sophia Mueller Bahr, was born Feb. 12, 1876, in Elkport.

She was baptized April 02 in the same year and at the age of 14 she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by the Rev. Sigmund Fuchs, pastor of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran church in Elkport. She received her education in the Elkport public schools.

Lena, as she was known to her family and friends, assisted her sister Marie in a dressmakes' shop in Elkport for many years. In addition to this, the sisters operated the Bell Telephone exchange in Elkport for about 20 years.

She died Monday morning, Dec. 30, following an illness of more than eight months during which she was bedridden.

She was preceded in death by her mother on June 02, 1917, her father on April 06, 1923, and her sister Marie on Oct. 18, 1942. Another sister, Selma, died in infancy.

Survivors include her brother, John Bahr of Elkader, and the following sisters: Mrs. Sophia Smith, Mrs. Clara Wittman, Mrs. Elsa Hauschen, all of West Haven, and Mrs. Anna Saur of Elkader.

The funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 02, at her home and the Lutheran church at Elkport with the Rev. K. Landgrebe officiating. Burial was in the Elkport cemetery.
