Knut L. Olson, 75, died at his farm home near St. Olaf, Tuesday, June 19, as the result of a heart condition. Mr. Olson, the eleventh of Thirteen children of Levi and Gunild Olson, was born February 3, 1881, in Wagner township, Clayton county. He was baptized at an early age in the Norway Lutheran Church of St. Olaf and was a member of that church all his life. He attended the local Clayton county schools and farmed near St. Olaf his entire life with the exception of three years spent in North Dakota.
On January 7, 1909, he was united in marriage with Annie Wettleson. To them seven children were born, six of whom are still living. They are: Vernie of Volga; Gerhard of Fayette; Alice, Mrs. Howard Bernhardt, of Monona; Leo of Elkader; Edna, Mrs. William Roethler, of Elkader; and Norma, Mrs. Frank Byers, of Cedar Rapids. One daughter, Arlene, preceded him in death as did his parents, eleven brothers and sisters.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and children, include one sister, Mrs. Susie Carney of St. Olaf, seventeen grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held at the Norway Lutheran Church on Friday, June 22, with Pastor O. R. Haugstul officiating. Interment was in the Norway Cemetery.
Honorary pall bearers were Harry Herrick, Harrison Wold, Theodore Wold and Vebjorn Landsgard. Active pall bearers were three grandsons and three nephews, Roger Bernhardt, Dean Bernhardt, Wayne Olson, Leonard Olson, Lawrence Olson and Cornelius Olson.
Relatives attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Peterson of Grand Forks, No. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Olson, Mrs. Emil Olson of Phelps, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Lolen Gieser and Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Eaton of Austin, Minn. Many other relatives and friends from St. Olaf, Elkader, Volga Monona, Clermont and Cedar Rapids.
