Monona- William Francis Roethler Sr., 82, of Monona, formerly of Elkader, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 29, 1999, in Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Postville, after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader. Burial: church Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Peters and the Rev. Dan Keppler will officiate. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, where a Scripture service begins at 4:30 p.m. today.

Survivors include his wife, Rodena; children, Robert of Emmetsburg, Beverly Stence of Des Moines, William Jr. of Eldridge and Kathryn Pahlas of Rockford, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Susan Millage of Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, Dale of Minnesota and Reynold of Lansing, Ind.; and two sisters, Rita Geraghty of Bruce, Wis., and LaVonne Albright of Glencoe, Minn.
