Postville Herald, Tues., 29 Apr. 1937. In the Luana column.

The community was saddened early Saturday morning when the word was passed about that Ed Pufahl had passed away at his home at 10 o'clock Friday evening, the result of pleura pneumonia, being ill only since the previous Sunday. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Lutheran church in Monona. He leaves to mourn his passing his widow and two daughters, Elizabeth and Anita, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Pufahl; brother, Albert Pufahl of Michigan, and sister, Mrs. Paul Hardt of Monona, and their families and numerous other relatives.

Clayton County Register, 28 Apr. 1936.

Funeral services for Edward H. Pufahl, 45, were held last Monday at 1:15 at the Schultz funeral home and at 1:30 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church in Monona, the Rev. H. W. Siefkes officiating. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery.

Edward Herman Pufahl was born near Monona on October 24, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustaf Pufahl. In the year 1916, on June 14, he was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Janzig, daughter of the Rev. J. Janzig, then of Guttenberg, now of Monona. Two children, Elizabeth and Anita, were born to this union.

Mr. Pufahl and his family lived on a farm southwest of Monona. Being so near he was counsellor to his aging parents as well as those of his wife, and they will miss his helpful attentions.

The deceased had been ailing most of the winter, but because of his energetic nature he did not realize he was weakening. He was called and served on the jury in Elkader this spring. A week ago last Sunday he attended church services. That same evening he became ill with flu-pneumonia, and on Friday evening death came to him at his home, shocking the entire community.

Mr. Pufahl was a devoted member of the church, to which he belonged all his life. When health and roads permitted, he never missed church services. He was one of the community's prominent farmers and a loyal citizen; a good son, a true husband, and a kind father. His family has the sympathy of the entire community.

Surviving are his widow and the two daughters, Elizabeth and Anita, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gustaf Pufahl of Monona, a brother, Dr. Alfred C. Pufahl of Kalamazoo, Mich., and one sister, Mrs. Paul Hardt of Monona.
