The Monona boy who lost his life in the family silo was Michael Torkelson, 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Torkelson, who farm about a mile south of Monona.

The silo had been filled with chopped hay Friday. The boy crawled up to the top late Saturday and jumped into the hay, which had since settled down. A physician reported that the lad was suffocated by carbon monoxide fumes given off by the hay.
