Farmersburg- Reuben J. Mueller, 81, formerly of Farmersburg, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, in his daughter's home in Glendale, Ariz. Visitation: Saturday, 9 to 2 p.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, where a memorial service begins at 2 p.m. Burial: Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg.
Survivors include his sister, Dorothy Zittergruen and her husband Harlan of Garnavillo; two daughters, Mary Lynne Jennings of Iowa City and Susan Kay Scheffert of Glendale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Denise Jennings of Iowa City, Jeffery Jennings and his wife Pam of Marion, Natalie Johnson and her husband Kevin of Phoenix and Darren Mueller and his wife Monica of Phoenix; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ellen.
Reuben was born July 25, 1917, on his family's farm in St. Olaf. He graduated from Farmersburg High School, Elkader Junior College and attended Upper Iowa University. Reuben was united in marriage to Ellen Kathryn Glawe on Oct. 8, 1940. He worked as a bricklayer with his father and grandfather. He later farmed outside of St. Olaf. He surveyed for Clayton County for many years. After retiring, he did volunteer work in his community for which he received an award from Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad. He was one of the original organizers of the St. Olaf Junior Farmers 4-H and served as a leader for many years. He was a member of the Farmersburg Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman. Reuben was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg.
He was a wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was well-loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church and the Farmersburg Volunteer Fire Department.
