Elkader- Virginia L. "Ginny" Gilmore, 79, died Monday, May 20, 2002, in Central Community Hospital after a long illness. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Paul Peters. There will be no burial. Friends may greet the family after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements with Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader.
Ginny was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Osterdock, Iowa, to James and Dulcie (Moser) Lee. She graduated from Guttenberg High School. Ginny was united in marriage to Dr. John Gilmore on Sept. 24, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Guttenberg. She worked as a dental technician for her husband for many years. She also served as Clayton County supervisor for a term. She had been a member of the Elisha Boardman Questers since 1976, was a member of the Elkader Historical Society and a past member of the Clayton County Fair Board. In 1984, she discovered rug hooking and had won many awards with this hobby.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. John B. Gilmore DDS; two sons, J. L. Gilmore of Glendale, Ariz., and James Gilmore of Montana; a daughter, Mary (Steve) Sokol of Oxford, Conn.; and grandchildren, Sarah and John Gilmore of Montana, Jed Gilmore of Glendale, Ariz., and Adam and Stephen Sokol of Oxford, Conn.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
