Elkader- Josephine Elizabeth Dunn, 100, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 23, 1996, in Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque, after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Thomas Rhomberg. Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Elkader. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, where a Scripture service begins at 3 p.m. and a rosary will follow.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Conners-Larkin and husband Dr. Charles Larkin of Madison, Wis.; a grandson, Dr. Michael Conners, DDS, and wife Sheila of New Berlin, Wis.; and three great-grandsons, Brad, Doug and Greg.
Josephine was born Jan. 17, 1896, in Elkader, to John and Mary Madden Feeney. She attended St. Joseph's grade and high school in Elkader and Upper Iowa College in Fayette. She was united in marriage to Peter A. Dunn on Sept. 7, 1920. Two children were born to this union: Francis J. Dunn, who became Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Dubuque; and a daughter, Mary Dunn.
Josephine was an active longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Joseph's Alter and Rosary Society, serving as president for three years. She was recording secretary for the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 40 years. She also taught in rural schools before her marriage. At the age of 79, she made a pilgrimage to Rome with her son and accompanied him during his audience with Pope Paul VI.
Mrs. Dunn remained in Elkader until 1984, at which time she moved to Dubuque to reside at Stonehill Care Center. Just a week prior to her death she celebrated her 100th birthday. While at Stonehill, she enjoyed visiting with people and listening to music.
The rosary will be recited by St. Joseph's Guild.
