Postville Herald, Thur., 3 April 1924.

Our departed brother, William Oldag, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Oldag, was born in Germany, March 19, 1839. Being a child of christian parents, he was brought to holy baptism, where he was made a member of Christ's church here on earth and an heir to eternal life. Here he also received his christian instruction that he might know his God and savior and what he must do to remain a child of God. In 1867 he came to America, the first three years being spent on a farm near Chicago. In 1870 he came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Luana. In 1901 he left the farm to retire from active work and since then has lived in Luana.

In 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Foels. The union was blessed with seven children, one of which, Louise, died in infancy. In 1915 his wife died and it was his daughter Emma who cared for her aged father the remaining years very faithfully. It is only natural that in the course of time his body became feeble and frail. Since last December his bodily strength had so diminished that he had to remain in bed. Since then he was made to feel the infirmity of old age. But even here the Lord was his shepard, his rod and staff comforted him. The time of affliction was also a time of blessing, brought him nearer to his God, nearer to his Savior, and nearer to his mansion in heaven. On Sunday night at one o'clock March 23rd his time on earth was finished. His earthly pilgrimage lasted 85 years and five days.

He is survived by two brothers, George of Postville, and Louis of Cameron, Idaho; Six children, Marie Ernst of Cedar Falls; Bertha Ganschow of Blue Island, Ill.; Louis of Luana; William of Spring Valley, Minn.; George of Paullina; and Emma at home; also seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
