John W. Lowe, aged 99 years and six months died yesterday afternoon at 12:50 at from old age and a general breakdown.

Mr. Lowe was born at Staubenville, Iowa (sic), near which place he spent his boyhood days.

In 1860 he enlisted in the First Iowa Cavalry, but owing to his being afflicted with white swelling, which prevented him from riding, he was not mustered into the service in the cavalry corps. He next enlisted in the 21st Iowa Infantry and served three years. At the battle of Bear's Creek in Missouri he was taken prisoner by Marmaduke and was kept in custody for some time. After the war he returned to Iowa where he stayed for some time before coming to Kansas.

He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his death. The children are: William Lowe whose whereabouts are unknown; Mrs. Vesta Davis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and his adopted daughter, Mrs. Effie Voshell of Wadena, Iowa.

Short funeral services were held at the home this morning at 10 o'clock and the remains were shipped to Volga City, Iowa, for burial. Mrs. Lowe, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Walter Rothlisberger accompanied the remains.
