Lars Gregerson, pioneer of Clayton County, died at his home near Elkader, on Tuesday, March 7, at the age of ninety-four years two months and fourteen days. Mr. Gregerson had been in fair health up until February 24, when he was taken sick and resulted in bronchial pneumonia, but calmly and quietly slumbered he answered the summons of God and entered his eternal home.

Lars Gregerson, youngest son of Gregor Olson and Gunhild Guttormson was born Dec. 21, 1844, in Numedal, Norway. He received his religious training and was baptized and confirmed in Norway. He also received his early education in Norway and was a member of Highland Lutheran church.

On April 23, at the age of 23 years, Mr. Gregerson came to the United States, taking him three weeks on that journey.

In May, 1867, he came to Clayton county near Elkader where he bought a farm in 1880, which had been his home up to the time of his death.

On Oct 9, 1884, he was united in marriage to Margaret Olson Aason, in Elkader. To them were born eight children, two who died in infancy, namely Gilbert age four, and Selma age two years.
His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 1934.

There lives to mourn the death of this kind, loving and faithful father and friend, four sons, Oscar and George, of near Elkader, Louis on his home place, and two daughters, Ida, at home and Mrs. Gurena Nielson near Centrel City, also six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The funeral services were held Friday at the home at one o'clock and at two o'clock at the Highland Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. E.E. Ramsey, pastor. The casket bearers were, Albert Larson, Henry Larson, Adolph Hanson, C.O. Torkelson, Roy Leuchtenmacher and Orville Larson. Burial was made in the Highland cemetery.
