Cedar Rapids Gazette, Sat., 10 Jan. 2004. (Condensed).

Elkport-- Ruth Amella/Amelia Julla/Julia (Meyer) Ruegnitz, 90, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in Northeast Iowa Christian Retirement Community, Strawberry Point, following a brief illness. Services: Monday, Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport. Burial: Union Cemetery, Littleport. Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, in charge of arrangements.

She was born Jan. 12, 1913, in Littleport, to George and Emma Hawker Meyer; graduated from Littleport High School and attended normal school at Upper Iowa Univ. for teaching; married Raymond Ruegnitz at Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, on June 17, 1935. She played piano for silent movies in Littleport and taught country school for 5 years before her marriage.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet (Doug) Vittitoe of Marion; 3 grandchildren, Lori (Steve) Bozanek of Marion, Tami Vittitoe of Marion and Tony (Julie) Vittitoe of Walford; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Mildred Stannard/Stanhard and June Wolf.
