Garnavillo-- A Garnavillo high school senior, Cynthia Rowland, 17, was fatally injured Saturday night in a two-car collision while returning home from a sleigh riding party. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a Prairie du Chien, Wis., hospital.
The collision happened in front of St. Paul's Lutheran church here. Authorities said the car in which Miss Rowland and three other seniors were riding was struck broadside by a car driven by Roger Klemp, 16, a high school junior. Riding with Klemp was the dead girl's brother, Steve Rowland, 16.
Miss Rowland was hurled from the front seat of the car and her head was pinned under the car door.
Young Klemp was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way.
Miss Rowland was queen of the 1963 Garnavillo high school homecoming and was drum major in the school band. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rowland, three brothers and two sisters.
Services: St. Joseph's church Tuesday at 10. The body is at the Tuecke Funeral Home.
