Postville Herald, Thur., 23 Aug. 1923.
The lifeless body of Joseph Matt was found in a straw stack at the Ed Tuecke place, near Garnavillo, Saturday afternoon, August 4, says the Monona Leader. Mr. Matt, who had been living at Garnavillo, went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tuecke, a few days previous. He had suffered a nervous breakdown, but had given his family no reason to suspect he contemplated so rash an act. Probably on the impulse of the moment he went to the straw stack, cut the veins in his wrist and died before he was discovered. He leaves a number of children, all grown. His wife died some years ago. He was about 68 years of age.
