Colesburg-- Veryl Marvin Morarend, 76, of rural Colesburg, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, in Guttenberg Care Center from complications of bypass surgery. Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, by the Rev. Harold McMillin. Burial: Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m Saturday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.

He was born Dec. 26, 1925, on the family farm near Osterdock, and was a son of the late Arno Morarend and Clara Friedlein Morarend. He was a farmer. On Dec. 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Phyllis J. Moser in the family home near Osterdock.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat (Robert) Jones of Guttenberg; a son, Tom (Carol) Morarend of Manchester; three grandchildren, Kecia (Bobby) Law, Jason (Tina) Morarend and Jesse Morarend; a great-granddaughter, Morgan Morarend; four brothers, Lyle of Guttenberg, Delois (Lois) Morarend of Elkader, Leonard (Jean) Morarend of Osterdock and William (Gerene) Morarend of Millville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; and two sisters in infancy.
