Elkader, Ia. - Pfc. Marvin Kraus, 31, of near Garnavillo, was killed in action in France on July 5, according to word received from the War Department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Kraus.
Pfc. Kraus entered service on June 18, 1942, at Rockford, Ill., where he had been employed. He went overseas last spring.
He is survived by his parents, and three brothers, Eugene and Lincoln, at home, and Donald, of near Edgewood.

Garnavillo Infantryman Was Killed in France
Memorial services for Pfc. Marvin A. Kraus, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Kraus, will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, Garnavillo. The pastor, Rev. V. Hackbarth and the Lemka-Stendel Post 106 of the American Legion will be in charge of the services.Private Krause [sic], an infantryman, was killed in action in France, July 5. His parents received word of his death from the War department Aug. 5.
He entered the service in June, 1942, and went overseas this last spring.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Donald, Eugene and Lincoln.
Members of the Lemka-Stendel post are requested to assemble at the Elkader Opera house at 1 p.m., Sunday. All Legionnaires, service men and women are asked to take part in these services.

~Notes: He was originally buried in an American cemetery in France. His remains were reburied in the Ceres cemetery in 1948.
