Postville Herald, Wednesday, 20 Oct. 1921.

S. H. F. Schoulte, prominent citizen of Farmersburg township and formerly active in county affairs, died at his home at one o'clock, Wednesday morning, October 12th. He had been in poor health for about a year and confined to his bed for about ten days previous to his death.

Frank Schoulte, as he was called by his friends, was born at Maquoketa, Dubuque county, December 5, 1841, the oldest of a family of eleven children born to Wm. and Katie Schoulte. In 1842 his parents came to Garnavillo township, Clayton county, where they made their home until their death. Frank grew to manhood on the home farm and received his education at Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. In 1871 he went to Farmersburg township and settled on three hundred and fifteen acres of land. Land and farming was a passion for him and he gradually increased his holdings until he farmed over a thousand acres in this county, besides large farms elsewhere.

In 1872 Mr. Schoulte was married to Miss Mary Kann of Guttenberg, who died about eleven years ago. Thirteen children were born to them, ten of whom are still living. Mr. Schoulte is also survived by three brothers, Herman and Henry of Garnavillo, and John E. of Casper, Wyoming; and two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Schmidt of Postville and Mrs. Sarah Uriell of Elkader.

Mr. Schoulte was active in public affairs for years and was honored by being elected to various public offices. He was a member of the county board of supervisors for several terms and was commissioner in charge of the construction of the beautiful stone arch bridge at Elkader. In fact a large portion of the credit for the construction of such a beautiful and substantial structure is due Mr. Schoulte.

He was a man of strong character, positive in his beliefs, able and energetic. He left his mark on the life and progress of the county and it is a credit to him.

The funeral services were held on Saturday from St. Joseph's church, Garnavillo.-- Elkader Register.
