Services Held For Vernon Doom
Funeral services for Vernon Doom, 48, (Maj. USAF Ret.) were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 16, at 2 o'clock at the Boyd Funeral Home at Salem, Ky., with Rev. J. W. Hansen officiating.
Burial was in the Salem cemetery.
Major Doom died Sunday, Jan. 10 of a heart attack at Enid, Okla., where he was working as a barber.
He was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Doom, March 17, 1916, at Salem, Ky.
He was married to Jean Wiethorn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Wiethorn, June 17, 1950, at Shreveport, La.
Major Doom retired from the US Air Force Nov. 20, 1960 after serving 20 years on active duty.
Survivors include his wife, one son, Brian; one daughter, Mary; his parents; four sisters, Mrs. Chet (Martha) Maxfield, Cadiz, Ky., Mrs. Cecil (Shirley) Smith, St. Charles, Mo., Mrs. Kenneth (Hazel) Guess, Fredonia, Ky., and Mrs. James (Margery) Sumner of Fitchburg, Mass.; and three brothers, Raymond of Evansville, Indiana, Harland of Hazelwood, Mo., and Lawrence of Detroit, Mich.
Pallbearers were: Raymond and Glenney Shewcraft, David Macon, Jimmy Richardson, Rayburn Doom, and Denver Patton.
