Bernice Anderson

Funeral services for Bernice Anderson were held Friday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. Rev. William Palmquist officiated. Interment was in the Marion Lutheran Cemetery. Muchlethaler's Funeral Service of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Bernice Margaret Anderson, daughter of P. K. and Julia Christianson Peterson, was born Oct. 26, 1916 on a farm near Wauzeka, WI. She died Jan. 7, 1991 at a son's farm at the age of 74.

She was baptized Dec. 19, 1916 at her Wauzeka home. Her family moved to the Gunder area in Iowa when she was a youth. She was confirmed June 28, 1931, by Pastor Strandjord at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. She received her education in the rural schools around Gunder.

She married Harvey Anderson on Jan. 16, 1943 at the Marion Lutheran Church. The couple had 5 children. They farmed until 1965 and then operated a service station and feed business until 1978. They spent their retirement years near Gunder. She was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church where she was very active; she sang in the choir, was a member of the ELCA and served on the church council.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harvey, in 1986, a son who died in infancy and two grandsons.

She is survived by 3 sons, Wayne, Minneapolis, MN, twin sons, David and Daryl, Gunder, and a daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. Tom) Whittle, Volga; 14 grandchildren and a sister, Gladys (Mrs. Harold) Halvorson, Elgin.

Pallbearers: Steve Halverson, Eric Amundson, Arnold Gunderson, Dean Gunderson, LaVerne Swenson and Robert Swenson.
