Harvey Merle Anderson

Harvey Merle Anderson, 71, died Friday at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, where he had been hospitalized since being transferred there from Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. A former farmer, he and his wife purchased the DX station and feed business in Gunder in 1965 and operated that until his retirement in 1978. He lived all of his life near Clermont.

Services were Monday at Marion Lutheran Church of Gunder and burial was in the church cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. Keith Klemm and arrangements were by Muehlethaler's Funeral Home, Elgin.

Pallbearers were: LaVerne Swenson, Robert Swenson, Henry Follett, Gary Anderson, Larry Anderson and Merlin Chapman.

He was born July 17, 1914 near Clermont to Albert and Alma (Ostlie) Anderson. He attended rural Fayette County schools. He was baptized and confirmed at West Clermont Lutheran Church.

On Jan. 16, 1943 he married Bernice Peterson at the Marion Lutheran Church. The couple had 5 children. After the marriage they farmed 3 years near Clermont before moving to a farm near Gunder, where they farmed until purchasing the Gunder station and feed business.

Anderson was a Marion Township trustee, on the board of the Marion Cemetery, on the Clermont Fire board, on the board of the Gunder Cheese Factory and on the board of the Scenic Ridge Telephone Company. He served on the Marion Lutheran Church council.

Survivors include his wife, 3 sons, Wayne of Rowley, and David and Daryl of Gunder, a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Cheryl) Whittle of Volga, 12 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Mrs. Martin (Sophie) Green of Clermont and Mrs. Ted (Lillian) Peters of Litchfield, MN, and 2 brothers, Vernon of Clermont and Alden of Nickerson, KS.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, a sister, Viola Swenson, and infant brother and 2 infant grandsons.
